IBM Micro Web Browser is a graphical web browser for DOS. It is estimated that millions of old PCs are scrapped every year in the world because they are not capable of connecting to the Internet due to limited memory, storage, and CPU power. IBM ESBU (Embedded Systems Business Unit) is pleased to offer a tiny web browser that runs on older PCs with limited hardware resources.
While other web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer ignore older 386 and 486 PCs, requiring powerful newer PCs with lots of memory and storage, and powerful CPUs, IBM Micro Web Browser (also known as WebBoy) transforms older 386 and 486 PCs that were destined to be scrapped as under-powered and outdated in the new Internet/intranet era into up-to-date Internet computers with expressive GUI.
Most PCs installed in schools are not latest models, and have therefore not been connected to the Internet. IBM Micro Web Browser will give hundreds of millions of children new educationsl opportunities to explore the world of the Web.
IBM Micro Web Browser was designed to run on older PCs with limited memory and storage. Its code size and working memory size are much smaller than those of other Web browsers. Thus it is also ideally suited to Internet/intranet products with limited hardware resources, such as TVs, video game machines, set-top-boxes, game machines, printers, copiers, screen phones, and many other existing and emerging applications.
